Oculus Vitae (Eye of Life)
September 2023
100 W × 50 H cm
Oil, linen canvas
This painting remains a mystery to me, yet it holds great value, both aesthetically and personally. Initially, I envisioned a cozy scene with glasses and wine, in a room with warm lighting. But then... where did this red arch with white light come from, one that would relentlessly follow me through the next three paintings? I still haven’t figured out its meaning, but when I look at the painting, I know that it stretches the narrative across time and space, luring me into some new, unexplored place.
The view from the heavens, drowning in the greenery of the taiga forests, combined with the tropical leaf fan, further hints at the need to listen to one's subconscious, if not unconscious. Let it be.
